DataFox 1.7.5 Released

I spent this afternoon getting DataFox 1.7.5 ready for release; this version is a minor update, fixing changes in the http://data.bsnl.in portal which rendered version 1.7 defunct. I also used the opportunity to correct the max version, so DataFox will now work with the all Firefox 3.5 installations. Enjoy!

Note: The AMO version will be updated next week

DataFox 1.7 Released

I finally had some time to polish off version 1.7 of DataFox, something which had been quite ready for a few weeks, but hadn’t been tested yet. Special thanks to Apoorv for testing the Delhi code as well as surfacing some important OS X bugs. Props to Vrushank Desai for the MTNL credentials I needed.

New in version 1.7:

  • Support for data.bsnl.in (bbservice.bsnl.in still works as well for 117.* series users).
  • Support for MTNL Bombay users with ‘@’ usernames.
  • New {rX} variable contains the remaining amount of transfer for the current month.

Will be pushed to AMO (still has version 1.5) later this week, the review process usually takes awhile. Enjoy!

FireBible 0.8.5 Released

Map of St. Paul's first journeyThis has probably been the fastest follow-on release I have made across all my projects (still not fast enough), due to an internationalization bug a few users ran into; for any language for which a JSword localization existed, the Bible toolbar / search could produce invalid URLs. I also happened to be working on Map / Image support so that got bundled in too. I managed to throw in a few verse display settings as well, more preferences like this to come in the future. If you already have FireBible installed, simply go to Tools > Add-ons and click Find Updates to find the FireBible update. Or you could head on to FireBible and pick it up.

There are no Map or Image modules in the Crosswire repository due to copyright issues, but you can find many in Karl Kleinpaste’s public module repository. FireBible may only display text for a few of these modules due to a bug in JSword which should be fixed in the next JSword release. Watch this space for updates.

As always, all feedback appreciated; hope you enjoy this release!

FireBible 0.8 Released

It’s been nearly a year since the last FireBible release. Way too long since most of the core functionality for this version was ready way back in July last year. What’s new? General Book, Daliy Devotional, Glossary and Dictionary support. The awesome bar in Firefox 3 makes looking up content especially easy since all you need to do is type in the title of previously viewed / bookmarked content and Firefox will suggest the best links for you. This version is compatible with JSword 1.6 and the new Java plugins from Sun (see special instructions if you have Java 1.6 update 10 or update 11 installed). For more details, head on to the FireBible page.

DataFox and BSNL’s New Portal

BSNL's Latest Portal

Apparently not happy with their usage monitoring portal (or due to technical inability), almost a year ago BSNL started redirecting new customers (with IPs in the range 117.*.*.*) to a new portal where they could check their usage – http://bbservice.bsnl.in

I updated DatatFox and released version 1.4 to take care of this, everything seemed to be working fine until around a month ago; when they released yet another portal.  Now 117.* users may (that’s right, may) be redirected to http://bbservice.bsnl.in/wps/portal automatically when they try to go to http://bbservice.bsnl.in; this is another completely different portal, one which DataFox cannot currently handle. One of my users reported that sometimes he is sent to the old new portal, and sometimes to the new new portal, WTF?

Whenever I try though, I do not get redirected, and have therefore been unable to take a crack at the new portal. I’m also very busy with work right now, so have had no time to look into this further. It will take me at least a couple of weeks to get back on this problem (along with an update for MTNL users). In the meanwhile, if you have any additional info on this subject, please leave a comment, email me or join the discussion here.
